Kathryn Salyer Design Named Thermador Kitchen Design Challenge National Winner
Kathryn Salyer Design is proud to announce that Kathryn Salyer was named a Thermador Kitchen Design Challenge National Winner. The award was given on September 29th at a gala event at the BSH Experience & Design Center in Southern California that celebrated the competition’s distinguished entrants.
Kathryn was first named Mid-Atlantic Regional Winner in this prestigious national kitchen design competition for demonstrating unsurpassed creativity in designing a luxury kitchen for her client. She was one of five national winners and was first runner-up in the Traditional/Transitional category.
"The winners of our Thermador Kitchen Design Challenge are some of the most talented kitchen design professionals in the business," said Zach Elkin, director, brand marketing of Thermador. "These designers know what culinary enthusiasts want in the heart of their homes, and with their talent and expertise have created magnificent kitchens that beautifully showcase the capabilities and innovation of Thermador in the American luxury kitchen."
Kathryn named her entry “21st Century Traditional,” a gorgeous, new construction kitchen in the heart of Williamsburg, Virginia. The home was built to be the "forever home" for a young professional couple with two small children. This couple juggles children, work and crazy international travel schedules.
“They wanted their home to be a haven, a place to welcome, enjoy and reconnect,” said Kathryn. “The entire home was thoughtfully designed to completely eliminate the typically unused formal areas. Establishing a fresh approach to our traditional architectural heritage was essential for this young family. The foundational design direction was to create an all-inclusive cooking, eating and living space to maximize their coveted family time.”
“In a completely open floor plan like this home, the kitchen is the focal point from the minute you enter the front door, which makes “smart function” and ease of use mandatory,” said Kathryn.
“The design is simplistic and logical with specifically zoned areas for food prep, cooking and clean up,” said Kathryn. “The refrigerator and freezer towers were paneled with custom cabinetry and the exhaust unit was nestled in a custom crafted wood hood. We used a fresh mix of clean and light materials such as glass tile, Namib marble and sparkling chrome to complete the look. All the elements combined beautifully to keep our design commitment consistent with the traditional vibe of the home and this historic part of the country!”
The Thermador Kitchen Design Challenge invited professional kitchen designers, builders and architects to enter their most impressive kitchens designed with Thermador appliances.
